Detox your skin this Spring!

There’s something about this time of year that propels us to overhaul our homes, our diets and our wardrobes! Spring has a way of bringing with it an “out with the old, in with the new” tune right throughout nature, and us humans are no different! But have you considered spring cleaning your skin? If you’ve never refreshed your skincare routine with the change of season, add it to the list pronto!

In our quest to rejuvenate our lives with the change in season, our poor skin can easily get neglected. After all, it’s always there for us right? It’s not like we can swap it out like we can our clothes and makeup! But our skin faces the harsh realities of being exposed to the elements daily, including pollution, cold and heat. Use our 5 tips to detox your skin this Spring!

5 tips to a Skin Spring Clean

  1. Overhaul your skincare routine
    Whether you currently do nothing or you religiously follow a multi-step program, Spring is a great time to dedicate time to your body. If your skincare routine is non-existent, start small by simply cleansing your makeup or moisturiser off every night, or dedicating time to an all over body moisturiser even just once or twice a week. The time for yourself is good for both your body and soul! Even if you’re the Mr Miyagi of looking after skin, you can still reassess your products and how often you spend time on your routine.
  2. Nourish your skin
    Some skincare products are packed so heavily with ingredients that have no nourishing benefits that it’s a wonder they can be on the market. Swap out all the nasties for natural products that offer antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that absorb into your skin and make a difference at a cellular level. Ingredients such as Kakadu Plum that offers Vitamin C and anti-inflammatory benefits or Coconut Oil that can repair cells and boost hydration are fantastic ingredients to look out for.   3. Exfoliate
    Your skin is the largest organ in your body but did you know that your skin is shedding all day, every day? Roughly 30,000 to 40,000 skin cells fall of our bodies EVERY HOUR, but as we get older, this regeneration starts to slow, meaning older cells start to pile up on our skin. When you exfoliate, you quite literally are shedding your old self in an “out with the old, in with the new” style!
  4. Hydrate
    The colder months can make it more challenging to keep your water intake up, but as the temperatures start to soar again, remember that water is your friend! Set alarms or use the apps available to remind you to drink up, or track the number of glasses or bottles you drink through the day. Aim for 1.5-2L a day!
  5. Lighten Up!
    With temperatures already hitting the high 30s in some areas across Australia, Spring allows us to switch from a heavy matt foundation that supported us through Winter, to a lighter foundation or BB cream. Better yet, go au natural with some gentle moisturiser and give your skin a chance to breathe.
